Mountain Climbers and Global Warming

April 7th, 2007
    by Bergbikr

Note Before Reading: The Medieval Warm Period around 1000 was warmer than today with wine grapes growing in Greenland and Britain (and Britain also in Roman times). From the late 17 century to the early 19 century, the Little Ice Age afflicted the planet and glaciers grew. We have been warming our way out of this period ever since. As 'greenhouse gases' from industrialization increased in the 1940s through the 1970s, the temperature of the earth dropped so much that new Ice Age warnings were sounded and a notorious Time magazine cover visualized this fear. Today we live amidst angst over a planetary thermal 'tipping point' generated by Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth" and the perennial rending of robes and gnashing of teeth by the IPCC high priests of global warming doom. Yet we hear from real scientists that regions of our solar system — our companion Mars in particular — are warming significantly presumably driven by the solar activity cycle observed as sun spots, flares and cosmic ray variations. Other voices dare to challenge the veracity of the climatological models which are found wanting in historical accuracy and give wide ranging climate predictions in response to parametric 'tweaking.'

So what is one to do now? I'd just 'cool it' and wait for the science to separate completely from the politics of global government micro-management and the religious fervor of the green, environmentalist ideologues. Then we can see our physical world for what it has been and will be, a beautiful and complex creation, dancing delicately along the flight of time's arrow.

The following article was the instrument of irritation that begat the brief response above:

Mountain Climbers Witness Global Warming

By JOHN HEILPRIN
Associated Press: April 7, 2007

BEND, Ore. (AP) - Mountaineers are bringing back firsthand accounts of vanishing glaciers, melting ice routes, crumbling rock formations and flood- prone lakes where glaciers once rose.

The observations are transforming a growing number of alpine and ice climbers, some of whom have scientific training, into eyewitnesses of global warming. Increasingly, they are deciding not to leave it to scientists to tell the entire story.

"I personally have done a bunch of ice climbs around the world that no longer exist," said Yvon Chouinard, a renowned climber and surfer and founder of Patagonia, Inc., an outdoor clothing and gear company that champions the environment. "I mean, I was aghast at the change."

Chouinard pointed to recent trips where the ice had all but disappeared on the famous Diamond Couloir of 16,897-foot Mount Kenya, and snow was absent at low elevations on 4,409-foot Ben Nevis, Britain's highest peak, in the Highlands of northwest Scotland. He sees a role for climbers in debating climate change, even if their chronicles are unscientific.

Good Friday: Rock Bottom

April 6th, 2007
    by The MaryHunter

Good Friday is a supremely important day in our Christian faith calendar, but a grave and tragic day — rock bottom for Jesus. In a matter of a few days, He went from being celebrated as the Messiah to being abandoned even by his closest disciples — rejection, humiliation, crucifixion. Death.

But without rock-bottom Good Friday, the miracle of Easter would never have occurred.

NBC News correspondent David Bloom passed away four years ago today (6 April 2003) while covering the Iraq war. He died of a pulmonary embolism. This beautiful and inspiring quote I posted last year struck me as a particularly meaningful Good Friday reflection:

God takes you to the depths of your being - until you are at rock bottom - and then, if you turn to him with utter and blind faith, and resolve in your heart and mind to walk only with him and toward him, picks you up by the bootstraps and leads you home.

–David Bloom, in his last email to his family.

God grant that we might learn from Jesus' profound act of utter and blind faith, which we solemnly remember today.

Bless you all this Easter weekend.

Observations from a Padded Room

April 1st, 2007
    by DL

The following ramblings are just that: since the world has turned into such a crazy place, being inside a padded room looking out seems safe!

March 8, 2008: A day that will live in infamy. For the first time in the history of this once proud country we will have eagerly surrendered in a war against those who would destroy us. All this is with the complicity of the Democratic Party and a few Democrat wannabes in the Republican Party, including Chuck Hagel - who just completed the destruction of his candidacy for president of the USA.

Hillary says now that if she were president, she’d sign the “surrender on this day bill” being pushed by the white flag party. But, she’d also keep the some troops there too…. This lady has perfected the fence straddle being on opposite sides of a controversial issue at the same time. She’s so much like the Joe Lieberman we Ct. Nutmegger’s were weaned on. Only Joe had sense enough to feign a bit of moral and mental turmoil when he played both sides. Hint: Try wringing your hands a bit Hillary when you lie, don’t wear that plastic smile or use that superior icy glare as you lecture we peons; just look like you’re in agony over having to choose.

Al Gore playing the “It’s for the children” card likened the planetary crisis to a child having a fever. Gosh AL it must be contagious, because the other planets are catching it too. Al has been called a prophet and his global warming - a religion. Similarly, the secular souls of the sixties tell us religiously to love our mother earth. (Is it alright to tell big lies about your mother?) I certainly respect and respect Mother Earth, but I’ll continue to just worship her Father

Jon Kyl is reporting that the Democrats budget, without extending the tax cuts, will effectively result in the largest tax increase in history - $99 Billion. Not a problem, they’ll just blame it on Bush’s war.

An issue of sorts is developing over the Edward’s cancer response by the opposition. Ignoring for the moment, Bill Clintons fake tears at the Brown funeral, and the Dem party’s appalling partying at the Wellstone funeral, I’ll concede that we need to give the Edwards the benefit of the doubt as to how they handled this personal disaster and refrain from politicizing it. We can easily beat them on issues folks – if we bothered to try.

Gosh, the professional politicians of the Democrat-ic Party are very upset because Gonzalez seems to have fibbed to them. He should have used the Hillary defense; “I can’t remember.” Not being a fan of Gonzales nor lying under oath none-the-less, I would merely paraphrase the good book…let the liberal politician who has never told a deliberate lie to the American people cast the first stone.

Some Tennessee lawmaker wants a signed death certificate for every abortion. This is sure to be an explosive issue. True - there is that privacy thing, but once the child is aborted, does it still belong to the woman? And…why don’t they ever show one on TV if it’s just a medical procedure? Heck, as long as they don’t keep Germany’s polar bear cub alive, I guess we’re a moral world after all. What culture of Death?

A British pundit says that Iran’s treatment of the 15 captured British soldiers could be a turning point in the relations Tehran has with the West. Huh? Where has this guy been since the Shah fell? I wonder if he’s related to the world’s great emissary Jimmy Carter.

One has to wonder where American Jews would come down on a resolution to stop backing Israel. It is fascinating to learn just how many Jews (Lieberman being one exception) value liberal politics more than their own religious and ancestral heritage; often taking positions on the war that help Islamic extremists, contrary to what one assumes would be the norm. Is their real religion liberal secularism?

Hillary in lecturing the world as to her perfection said that “I think that one of the hallmarks of democracy is that we have the rule of law. This lady must take the award for unmitigated gall. She of the, “I don’t remember” mantra under oath, (I suspect even before a question was asked) She of the “copied FBI political enemies’ files” fame, she of the missing files fame that miraculously arrived via the tooth fairy on her bedroom table. She of the illegal campaign finance…oh never mind! She would just view this list as applause for her cleverness!

Washington State came up with the classic liberal answer to the failure of its 10th grade students on the annual math and science sections of the state achievement tests. The cure was so simple it was surprising that they didn’t think of it before. They simply dropped the offending sections from the test. They had done the same thing 3 years earlier because students failed a communications section. This must be “No State Left Behind?”

As I said after the Libby hanging, anyone from the conservative side who testifies before a Democrat led congressional investigation (Fishing and lynching party) and doesn’t take the 5th is crazy. Now it has begun, with Monica Goodling doing so. The rabid Democrats have contaminated the investigative role of congress for years to come. Come to think of it – that may not be a bad deal after all –I never did like these sanctimonious slobs wiping their feet on their cowering subjects. Our founding fathers should have required both sides to answer questions under oath. Politicians are incapable of investigating anything fairly. With little more than hatred and vengeance as the Dems prime motives, justice is being raped. We have moved into a bizarre third world mentality of political trials with political prisoners folks!

The Boston Globe sneers that George Bush’s “Mayberry” lives on, insinuating that he lives in fantasy land (This from those who believe talking in the UN will stop terrorism) The real unanswered message here is that liberals viscerally hate the world Mayberry represented with its Mom and Pop family based on goodness and decency, with an “apple pie America” as the desire of most of our country folk. Better to have the trashy world their secularist cultural revolution has created.

Worried parents in Great Britain are making their offspring wear knife proof vests - a direct result of removing the gun from the common man’s defense system.

There is a test of political will going on about prostituting the Capitol itself as a showplace for the leftist global warming scam, in the form of a Live Earth (spare me) concert. Besides being from a day and age when concerts were only put on by people wearing tuxedos, I wonder just how far the lib party will go to desecrate our Capitol as they have with everything else they’ve touched. Will we soon expect a group gay marriage festival in honor of Studds and Foley, or perhaps a free abortions day to be announced as part of our nation’s downward history?

Just as the left demanded to know bush’s exit strategy almost before the first shot was fired, these surrender-crats now refuse to tell us what their post surrender strategy is – both for the Middle East and for here. I’m sure they have an old secret plan or two they can dust off, when the attacks start.

Democrats in St. Paul want to give free credit $20 (At Target stores etc.) to public healthcare patients as incentives (to vote Dem) to follow doctor’s orders. Gosh, they still haven’t figured out what all that Katrina credit card money was spent on, have they? Matters not –it’s your money they’re spending

A South Dakota Restaurant owner could face ten years if the court finds he used illegals for financial gain. Isn’t that the very reason that bush says he won’t deport 12 million of them – our economy?

God Bless Tony Snow

March 28th, 2007
    by Bergbikr

This heart warming picture of Tony Snow and our President's request for prayers to help Tony overcome the recurrence of abdominal cancer was featured today at Lucianne.com. We join with our prayers here as well.

"Obviously, a lot of folks here in the White House worry a lot about their friend, as do Laura and I.
And so my message to Tony is, stay strong; a lot of people love you
and care for you and will pray for you.
And we're hoping for all the best.
I'm looking forward to the day that he comes back to the White House
and briefs the press corps on the decisions that
I'm making and why I'm making them.
In the meantime, I hope our fellow citizens
offer a prayer to he and his family."

Observations from a Padded Room

March 25th, 2007
    by DL

The following ramblings are just that: since the world has turned into such a crazy place, being inside a padded room looking out seems safe!

Mayor Nagin of Chocolate town is saying that that there is a plot to keep blacks away from developing strong centers of voting by dispersing them after disasters. (Katrina) Mayor, I guess you could call your fantasy the vast white wing conspiracy.

Oh Oh! John McCain just used a politically incorrect word “tar-baby.” This sounds like the kind of thing that can do him in (Depending upon the left’s need for his “Maverick-in-chief” activities). As much as I loathe McCain, I fear the acceptance of this PC “words are weapons” game far more. But, since “McCain/Feingold” was his personal creation, and he sees no harm in controlling people’s free political speech, it would indeed be ironic, and more than a bit satisfying, if political (PC) restrictions on speech bring him down.

Sigh! I wonder just how long it will take some conservatives to stop wondering why libs don’t learn the truth about things like guns not being the problem, because bad people are. Don’t give them credit for being nice but ignorant. They do have a mission folks and it’s not a good one. They already know the truth –they’ve always known the truth –it’s not the bad people’s guns they’re after –it’s yours - they just want to take away your guns so that their power and authority is absolute!

Communist China adopts landmark property rights laws, while here in America both parties seem to be still silently celebrating the government confiscation of private land under the Kelo decision. Orwell was so prophetic.

The race among states to have the first primary is humorous to say the least. I ‘m waiting to hear the first state to announce: the primary was yesterday!

Two leftist senators – one from each party (Levin and Graham) are calling for an investigation to preserve super-terrorist Khalid Sheik Mohammed’s rights to not have been subjected to waterboarding. Why did this pair of opportunistic near-do-wells secretly plan to go to Gitmo in the first place, unless they had a previous agenda?

The enviro-socialist left in Europe has come up with a clever motto – “global warming is a weapon of mass destruction.” I would respond with, “global warming is a weapon of mass distortion!” Not as clever, but a hell of a lot more truthful.

Things are getting fuzzy these days – for example take those Waxman hearings with the “Impeach Bush” transvestite as sentry. I could have sworn this is a nothing but a repeat of the Paul Wellstone funeral, what with no Republicans present and little, but one-sided bashing of Bush, going on.

John McCain just promised to fix the world’s view of the Ugly American. Oh No! This sounds like another “Compassionate conservative to me!
John, don’t blame America for the world’s envy problems just to get elected.

One pundit is decrying the fact that Hollywood now plans to make movie after movie with the environment as the victim, replacing drug dealers etc. This is hardly new: many years ago the left replaced all those violent cartoons with “appropriate content.” As a result kids have been indoctrinated for years with the likes of evil capitalists being bashed by “Captain Planet” – or hasn’t anyone noticed what their kids have been subjected to?

Did you ever notice that the cure for all evil against the sacred environment (Ironic that for liberals, God’s replacement is His creation) always comes down to money as the cure – Kyoto wealth transfers, purchasing carbon credits from Al gore’s Co. etc? And now London is going to double the road tax (money) on SUVs. Like the cigarette issue –if they’re so evil, why not just ban the damned things? Answer: lust for money not the environment!

We now learn that Fitzgerald was on a list of AGs who had “failed to distinguish themselves,” when he was investigating the CIA leak. He surely fixed that little problem quickly, using Scooter Libby’s head, didn’t he? Perhaps this is the main reason that he continued with “the case without a crime.” But, Attorneys General would never prosecute and jail a person for personal or political gain, now would they? And poor Scooter doesn’t even play lacrosse…

A You Tube ad promoting Obama and bashing Hillary as a “big brother” type has been getting 400,000 hits a day. Why is all that money spent on Super bowl ads when a bashing Hillary internet ad will do the job so well?

If it is imperative that we accept millions of “immigrants” to “do the jobs Americans won’t do,” the least we can insist upon is a policy that supports non-discrimination. Mexicans have made up a disproportionate mega-share of both legal and illegal immigrants for a couple decades now. Fairness requires we replace the illegals with people from other parts of the world before we talk about “paths” to anything, or amnesty for anyone. Let the liberals go public with being against non-discrimination.

Al Gore and the left are always bashing Bush and the GOP for failing to keep the support of the rest of the world. Okay Al: respond if you will, without offending the president of the Czech Republic who says your global warming is “communism” and a “religion” that will destroy the west if we buy in to the big lie. Please keep him on our side while you explain to the head of a country that spent 3 or 4 decades under the crushing boots of a big lie, what you are really pushing! Tell him about the impending crisis that will ruin your carbon raping lifestyle.

Some Muslim groups and lawyers are jumping into that “six imam, airport” lawsuit on the good guy’s side! Good to see a break in the jihadist wall. It’s a start folks.

Sports Illustrated (a Time Warner publication –it figures) joins the leftist global warming panic propaganda in time for Al Gore’s congressional circus performance with him as the silly clown. This science magazine issue is from the same people (sports writers) who are prone to refer to a ghetto jock’s physical maneuvers on the playing field as “brilliant.”

Gore now wants your pension fund to invest in anti-global warming companies. Is he going public with his carbon credit stock soon, because his zinc-mining fraud has been exposed? Didn’t Martha Stewart get in trouble for touting her own company? Hmmm? Better stay private with your eco-laundering operations Al.

The anti-war excuse makers for those who trashed an Army recruitment center in Milwaukee claims that it couldn’t be helped, they’re just frustrated patriots.(See-it’s really your fault) - reminds me so much of the old Jesse Jackson threats of a long hot summer (think Black riots) unless you people capitulate to our demands. (See-it’s really your fault)

Howie Kurtz of the WaPo finds a conservative pundit (Rich Lowry) criticizing Bush and morphs that into evidence that liberal media bias is a myth and doesn’t exist. Howie, when a conservative (Lowry) attacks their own it’s caledl honesty. We’re waiting for you, your liberal paper, and the rest of the leftist MSM to also be honest and attack your own liberals with the same ferocity you use against Bush and conservatives. Once again, you just proved liberal media bias!

That High-falutin’ Pollutin’ Gore

March 19th, 2007
    The MaryHunter

Yet another reason to snark at Al Gore and his putrid hypocrisy (can hypocrisy be putrid? More on that later perhaps…). From Brit Hume's Political Grapevine:

Al Gore may be contributing to global warming in more ways than just using large amounts of energy at his Nashville mansion. The Tennessean newspaper reports Gore has received more than a half-million dollars in royalty payments from zinc mining on his property.

The EPA says Gore's mines are part of a complex that released more than 19 million pounds of toxic substances into the air, water and land from 1998 to 2003. The mines are scheduled to be reopened later this year after four years of inactivity.

The paper says some of Gore's neighbors see a conflict between the mining and the former vice president's moral call for environmental activism. One man said that Gore was not "walking the walk," adding, "mining is not exactly synonymous with being green, is it?"

Well what can one say.

Observations from a Padded Room

The following ramblings are just that: since the world has turned into such a crazy place, being inside a padded room looking out seems safe!

The World Bank is warning of an anticipated 50% loss of water in the Mid-east. I propose we sell them this precious commodity of life at the same outrageous rates they charge for oil –unless they prefer to learn to drink that stuff they get from the ground. Hmmm! Imagine future headlines…. “The USA, head of the Western water cartel, announced it is cutting back supplies of water to the Mid-east to firm up prices…”

Bloggers were reporting that Fred Thompson is being persuaded to become a presidential candidate for “08.” One can get excited about this considering the pallid choice before a conservative now, but not without the necessary awareness that it is none other than Howard Baker of the flawed Iraq “Baker Commission” that is doing the pushing. Let’s hope for casual –not causal relationships here.

Illegals are openly threatening to boycott all spending for a week to teach the bad old USA a lesson. “Tit for tat” would require that we don’t give them any services or illegal pay for a week, if mass irritation be their weapon of choice. See how well it bounces back Amigos. I don’t suppose that we could threaten to actually try to close the borders for a week in retaliation.

Arab News is pointing to Communist Cuba’s 50 year defiance of the USA as a model to be followed. Arabs just love to emulate backward society –no wonder they’ve missed the 20th century completely. Perhaps if Cuba had worked with us they might now be like a South Korea –a market force that doesn’t spend its creative economic energies trying to repair and drive rusty old 1960’s wrecks around the island. Though I think the left’s ethanol craze will resurrect their sugarcane economy somewhat.

The Queen, according to the BBC, wants diversity to be celebrated in England. I assume she will be opening Buckingham Castle to various types of down-trodden folks from all cultural walks of life from now on. I would think that she’ll move to make speaking English an offense now, what with the sensitivity of other cultures – and then there’s that offensive English church and state issue that bothers so many other cultures too, particularly Islam. Perhaps her crown is getting a tad too tight.

Now we’re hearing about death threats to those scientists who defy the global warming one-world propagandists. Dare anyone have the courage to speak the truth because truth is the only anti-deception remedy known to mankind and therfore must be stifled by the leftists at all costs. Too much has been invested in this great global warming scam by the one-world left, to let it fail now. Folks, this has nothing to do with arguable science but, plenty to do with arguable politics!

Scotland has a knife problem. Yep! That vanguard of gun control has even had to resort to knife amnesty to try to alleviate the gun grab created problem, but to no avail. Some folks, and no small number of them, just don’t comprehend the simple concept that people intent upon breaking the law by murdering someone else could care about little things like gun or knife control laws. What’s next to try banning Scotland, rocks or golf clubs at St. Andrews?

Hillary is said to be furious at Halliburton for escaping to Dubai. It’s immoral to move to a more strategic place for selfish benefit. This is almost as immoral as someone moving to another state just to gain strategic power to become a temporary senator. Not to mention the profitability of being a future president. Baaaaad Halliburton…shame on you!

Reports say that Mexico is trying a lower profile on the illegal immigration issue. That must mean they hope to encourage less fence hopping and more tunnel digging. Lower profiles are hard to see particularly in dark underground tunnels.

The Dems are holding an investigation (#48999: This will make the voters think they’re really concerned about the borders) into foreign influence on the “border agent’s trial” The problem isn’t foreign influence, but foreign and domestic complicity on the entire illegal immigration issue. The complicity starts at the highest levels (presidential) in both countries, whose leaders are seeking to violate, or make moot, present border law. It calls for at least one “comprehensive” impeachment from my perspective. It is exactly this in-your-face, anti-conservative behavior by Bush that makes conservatives unwilling to risk voting for the empty promises of the present smooth-talking (I said that once but…) herd of GOP candidates.

“Why,” asked the social conservative to the real Republican, “would you want to vote for someone who supports doing most things just like the liberals we despise?” “It’s simple, because we want to win!” “And why would you want to win?” Because, we don’t like the way liberals do things?” Oh! I get it…I think?

Evidence of the sickness endemic in our leftist driven culture is the appearance of post-abortion E-cards: Congratulations, you have just successfully murdered your own innocent child and legally got away with it. Saaaaay, that Doctor did a marvelous job, didn’t he - saves you the problem of coming up with a name too, doesn’t it? PS – sorry, no gift this time, but thanks for doing your share of alleviating the over-population problem – it takes so long to get to work these days with those crowded highways!

There is a nasty consensus developing for the head of Atty. General Alberto Gonzales, of which I include myself. I do so, not because of his firing of several prosecutors in a Clinton lite move, and not because of his wimpy cave in about it, but because as the highest law enforcer in the land he has intentionally failed in his duty to enforce immigration law and secure the borders. Loyalty is not the issue, he does not work for Bush – he did not take an oath to Bush, but to the country.

Many think we should just have followed the “Clinton Doctrine” and avoided the entire Gonzales issue. What is the Clinton Doctrine? Fire your political enemies the first day in office and pardon your criminal friends and financial contributors the last day you’re in office.

In a real life study of the power of propaganda, the people of the beautiful, but politically contaminated, states of Vermont and New Hampshire have spoken. Many towns in Howard Dean’s Vermont voted to impeach Bush because of the Iraq war (they prefer the war to be here) while their comrades to the east in New Hampshire, just passed resolutions to stop global warming. Both states are host to some of the finest college towns that exist which explains the source of contamination (also Massachusetts is just south and Hillary’s New York is just west) and ignorance. Few realize that all New England governors have already signed a Kyoto type commitment on their own. It’s like watching a once beautiful cake slowly fall or fine bread turn moldy.

Hilarious Hillary is going to keep some troops in Iraq after all, to fight the non-existent Al Qaeda. This flip-flopping triangulating deceiver, first needs to tell us what her exit strategy is for the temporary troops the co-presidents put into Kosovo.

Al-Qeada’s Khalid Sheik Mohammed is claiming bad treatment at Gitmo and that is of serious concern said Human Right watch. Of course we can be certain that someone inhuman enough to have plotted 9/11 and personally slit Daniel Pearl’s throat to display his severed head on world wide TV would be adverse to telling fibs for moral reasons. By the way, how did he ever slip into Bush’s ranch to help plot 9/11 without being noticed?

I Went to the North Pole for Global Warming Awareness and All I Got Was This Lousy Frostbite

March 13th, 2007
    by The MaryHunter

I'm sure this has made the rounds over and over since I heard it on Rush today, but it just begs a posting here. From Brit Hume's Political Grapevine:

An expedition to the North Pole to call attention to the effect of global warming had to be cut short because one of the explorers got severe frostbite and the extreme cold temperatures drained the batteries in some of their gear.

Ann Bancroft, a cross-country skier from Minnesota, reported that it was so cold she was in danger of losing three of her toes. The explorers applied hot water bottles to her toes every night, but had to keep waking up because the hot water bottles froze.

Poor little moonbats - or should I say, moonbatsickles. Maybe Al Gore should have donated carbon credits to these folks, so they could have burned some fossil fules to keep themselves a bit warmer up there.

Observations from a Padded Room

[Editor's note: never fear, your Padded Room fix is FINALLY served! (albeit rather late, sorry) -TMH]

The following ramblings are just that: since the world has turned into such a crazy place, being inside a padded room looking out seems safe!

The libs are right. A new BBC poll shows that we have a worse country image than North Korea. We really need to install George Bush as a dictator with porno and hedonistic inclinations who starves his people and threatens the world with nuclear missiles: then the world will adore us again.

Obama and Hillary, the talk is, were pandering for the Black vote in Selma. My take is that Obama was really pandering for the white middle class vote by telling the black community (as did Bill Cosby) to shape up and step up to middle class values. Knowing the negative reaction to Cosby, he had to be seeking white votes by so risking it. Obama might really be a “08” winner if he were to show a Cosby face to the black community. He would make up any lost votes from them with admiration (and votes) from the white middle class community, though I personally liked Hillary’s fake black accent better than Obama’s fake black accent.

To paraphrase Cary Grant; Rudy, Rudy, Rudy….everyone seems excited about Rudy Giuliani’s big lead, (top of the pack and all that) as evidence that he is loved by the GOP masses. . A GOP analyst just referred to his lead as like American Idol –celebrity status. Just what this country doesn’t need for leadership? Some of us might think the whole thing is too much like catching a tough-fighting trophy fish with mercury poisoning in it: nice for enjoying the fight and the show, but we don’t want to bring it to the family table because we really care for our loved ones. Personally I fail to trust a man who defies his God, trivializes murder of the unborn, shrugs at his vows to those he professes to care deeply about, including his God, supports gay marriage, has shown a habitual willingness to break serious promises through disloyalty to his wives, and already shows an inclination to step on the constitution and federal law by controlling guns, but not necessarily our borders. I care not for such an untrustworthy man’s promises

Democrats are doing at least their fiftieth off Broadway production of “It’s Bush’s War, So Let’s Lose It For Him” This latest rewrite involves setting a time limit for the Iraqis (enough time to make their white flags) then, no matter what the cost, we leave. I thought this was not about Iraq, but about our survival against terrorism. Why would we not want to fight this thing over there, till we win?
I know – it’s the politics of personal destruction – that is, of all of us.

My wife just announced rather cynically that our new shower curtains were composed from vegetables etc. (Yes-the color was also green.) The sales hype I loved best was the promise on the label that there were no chemicals in them. Huh? Capitalists so love to co-opt silly lib-talk.

Those Democrats do play hardball. They’ve started now with their subpoenas about anything and everything they can find in their legal witch hunts to vilify the Republicans. The masses don’t seem to care that such dastardly tactics are routine with these slobs. When are the republicans going to stop trying to cozy up to these “domestic enablers” for the enemy and start playing hardball (tough doesn’t mean get immoral) themselves? It may mean survival folks. Scooter Libby is just the first foul shot for those who would openly and eagerly destroy our American system to gain power…over you.

It is often said that there are more trees in America today than were here when the Pilgrims (a strong church-going people) were here. I would take a bet that there are more trees now than the real endangered species; strong church-going people.

The British news is reporting that Iran has its great cultural sites at risk if the US attacks. If I were an Iranian watching as this whacko leader moved Iran toward destruction, it wouldn’t be the past I would worry about, it would be its future.

The global warming alarmists are in full flight as the truth from expert scientist after scientist is publicly refuting what these giddy fools have claimed we need to panic about. I suspect, those “scientists” who have been climate politicking for the UN, Gore, or big buck grants are preparing their “I was right anyway, but…” speech. I suppose they could claim last weekend’s lunar eclipse was the cause that got the planet back on the right track. Perhaps it’s not too late to save science as science after all.

PANIC BUTTON ALERT: NASA reports lack of funds to find all the killer asteroids that could harm us. This folks has all the makings of a leftist repeat of the global warming “panic for money” scam. Can’t you just hear the propaganda already that the rest of the world stands less of a chance of being hit by a killer asteroid than does the rich USA? Send our money to (Insert leftist institution)_______ in order to prevent world injustice. Could this become Al Gore’s, Plan B?

Gore’s firm…got that? Gore’s firm, assures us that he’s not profiting from his sale of carbon credits to himself through this (his) same firm. This sounds like his “I’m not a crook – just ask me” moment!

Most Dishonest News Story: The award goes to the one that claims that President Bush has ignored Mexico and Latin America. That “borders” on dishonesty!

Iran is said to be slowing its drive for nuclear enrichment of uranium. Sort of like the lookout for some bank robbers acting innocently when a cop walks too close.

There is publicly voiced concerned about the aggressiveness of Chinese spies in America. Perhaps China is concerned that the Clintons won’t get into the Whitehouse again after all?

A comedian says that Democrats are like kindergarteners. I disagree, because kindergarteners generally trust and eagerly listen to their teachers in order to learn. Liberal’s kindergarteners already know more than their teachers.

All across America for decades and decades, children have pledged to “…one nation…indivisible…” Now Hillary, and her lib friends’ main goal and strategy to control the masses is to reverse that successful history and divide America into special interest groups to which they can pander: blacks, feminists, Spanish, gays, atheists, teachers, unions, etc. And it works like crazy folks!

One liberal educator’s lawyer, responding to scandalous charges that children were viewing actual sex among students taking place in an Indianapolis classroom, says it won’t hurt them to view that. Such a silly thing: for parents to worry and bother to close their bedroom doors. It gives a new meaning to “no child left behind” concept. Where is Jocelyn Elders when we need her?

On the question of Bush pardoning Libby - he says no, he’ll only pardon illegal aliens.

Speaking of illegals, Bush got more than 40 percent of the Hispanic vote in 2004, but in 2006, after he promised amnesty (a path to citizenship), Republicans running for Congress got only about 30 percent. What makes those GOP experts think that Hispanics won’t just vote for the other guys, who will “give” them everything they want? Or is it really just about cheap labor after all George?

It is now politically incorrect to refer to certain peoples as Stone Age or primitive. It is fascinating to see a world that rushed away from the wisdom of God’s laws and true freedom only to become willing servants to certain secular gods with their infinite laws and restrictions, including the social, mental, and moral slavery encompassed in political correctness. Modernism is so sophisticated!

Jeffrey Hart, who once penned Reagan’s speeches, calls him a conservative because Reagan “recognized the world as it is.” I guess if you buy that criterion, Hitler, Mao, and Stalin were conservatives too.

The winner of the mega million lottery announced he going fishing. Heck, it doesn’t cost nearly that much if you dig your own bait.

The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming

March 12th, 2007
    by Bergbikr

"Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus." That's how I have been feeling lately - even in our delightful Spring weather on the Left Coast. First there was the surge of AGW Denier articles shooting salvos with effect at the political summary of the report not released yet by the UN's IPCC. Then word of the British TV production, "The Great Global Warming Swindle", closely followed on by its video availability via the World Wide Web courtesy of Google Video. I watched this video last night and can vouch for its clarity and integrity - and even more distinguished Deniers.

Next, what to our grateful eyes should appear, but a Front Page Magazine interview of another "Politically Correct Guide to … " author, who authoritatively takes on the junk science and one-worldism content of global warming and environmentalism. The interview by Jamie Glazov is a good one. See the lead paragraph below and follow the link to read "the rest of the story."

Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Christopher C. Horner, an attorney in Washington D.C. specializing in environmental policy and regulation, particularly international agreements and "global warming". He is affiliated with classical liberal think tanks in Washington and Europe, in which capacity he has testified before U.S. Senate committees and spoken on numerous occasions in the European Parliament and before policy leaders in numerous EU capitals from Madrid to Warsaw. These activities have made him a "climate criminal" according to environmentalist groups, one of which (Greenpeace) has actually taken his weekly garbage on a regular basis. He is the author of the new book The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming (and Environmentalism).

Continue this interview here.

I acquired this 300 page book recently and have only browsed the racy parts so far. Bergbikr recommends it as a broad spectrum treatment of post modern do-gooderism and fraudulent climate change pseudoscience.

UPDATE: The Great Global Warming Swindle

March 11th, 2007
    by Bergbikr

Can ya believe it? Google Video is airing the 75 minute long British Channel 4 film lambasting global warming madness. Check it out if you're interested in seeing and hearing a bevy of AGW Deniers. See for yourself;

The Great Global Warming Swindle which we commented upon a few days ago here, and repeat again below.

Recently some papers and cable TV have given glimpses of a few courageous Brits who are struggling to be free of their entanglement with IPCC's Anthropogenic Global Warming and the associated media hysteria projecting a human catastrophe. (Contemplating this puts me in mind of those taffy pulling machines that used to be found at traveling circuses.) This banner announces a contra AGW documentary airing in the UK on Ch 4 in two days.

The impressive trailer for this flic points out that:

[T]he earth's climate is always changing, and that rapid warmings and coolings took place long before the burning of fossil fuels. It argues that the present single-minded focus on reducing carbon emissions not only may have little impact on climate change, it may also have the unintended consequence of stifling development in the third world, prolonging endemic poverty and disease.

[…]

The film features an impressive roll-call of … experts in climatology, oceanography, meteorology, environmental science, biogeography and paleoclimatology from such reputable institutions as MIT, NASA, the International Arctic Research Centre, the Institut Pasteur, the Danish National Space Center and the Universities of London, Ottawa, Jerusalem, Winnipeg, Alabama and Virginia … who dispute the link between carbon dioxide levels and global temperatures.

Such dramatic presenting of scientific contra-sensus against the conventional wisdom consensus on global warming has become more common recently. I believe that this has been caused by the smug, fundamentalist tone of the politicized IPCC summary report along with the blatant subversion of the scientific method by their enthusiasts.

One of those resisting the lure of conventional fame and grant funding to support the environmental populist crusade comments:

'I've often heard it said that there is a consensus of thousands of scientists on the global warming issue, that humans are causing a catastrophic change to the climate system,' says John Christy, Professor and Director of the Earth System Science Center, NSSTC University of Alabama. 'Well I am one scientist, and there are many, that simply think that is not true.'

Will PBS or CNN or maybe the Fox News Channel eventually pick up this controversial film for our viewing pleasure?

Ah, me hearties, I smell the coming of a consensus collapse approaching.

Would that it could rock the foundations of climate science as did the 4.2 magnitude earthquake that recently sat me up, bolt upright, in my nearby Left Coast chair.

Those Damned One issue Voters Again

March 9th, 2007
    by DL

The following excerpts are from George Will’s recent article whereby he chastises social conservatives for being vehement about what they view as inalienable principles and not willing to choose among what they consider three poor choices: Giuliani, McCain and Romney.

WASHINGTON — The axiom is as old as human striving: The perfect is the enemy of the good. In politics this means that insisting on perfection in a candidate interferes with selecting a satisfactory one.

[…]

Suppose someone seeking the presidential nomination had, as a governor, signed the largest tax increase in his state's history and the nation's most permissive abortion law. And by signing a law institutionalizing no-fault divorce, he had unwittingly but substantially advanced an idea central to the campaign for same-sex marriages — the minimalist understanding of marriage as merely a contract between consenting adults to be entered into or dissolved as it suits their happiness.

Question: Is it not likely that such a presidential aspirant would be derided by some of today's fastidious conservatives? A sobering thought, that, because the attributes just described were those of Ronald Reagan.

George concludes thusly:

Conservatism comes in many flavors. None seems perfect for every conservative's palate; most should be satisfactory to most conservatives.

I have responded to George with the following via e-mail (minor editing only)

George,

Regarding your article, (Three Good Options for The Right) which chastises the lack of foresight in those who would reject the GOP RINO candidates, because they lack perfection, your persuasions are, for you, remarkably unpersuasive.

It isn't about perfection and excusing a few flaws, or as a non-social conservative might call it -one issue voters. It is about the vital essence of those issues. Try this example if you will: Sam’s wife is gorgeous, witty, intelligent, sensitive, supportive of his endeavors, but has this one little flaw -she keeps killing their offspring through the legal abortion system. He on the other hand has all the qualities of a top husband - provides well, stays fit, is supportive and generous, sacrifices so that she may be a professional also. He has but one little flaw: on Tuesdays he sleeps with his lover Vivian.

You get my point - some principles can’t be discarded for political expediency (win at any cost) because they are too vital to sacrifice even though someone may have a lot of other good qualities. It's not about perfection as you incorrectly posit the argument; it's about fundamental principles being thrown away one at a time until the party and the country morph directly into that which we should abhor -the other side’s very deadly goals.

There are 300 million people in this country (50 million less due to abortion). Surely we can do better than selecting these badly flawed people as leaders.

Observations from a Padded Room

March 5th, 2007
    by DL

The following ramblings are just that: since the world has turned into such a crazy place, being inside a padded room looking out seems safe!

Gosh, Bill Clinton is said to have accumulated 40 million dollars just for talking (speeches) for the last six years. And Hillary, who is supposed to be the smartest woman in the world, chooses instead to go on listening tours?

Mexican woman (they call themselves wetback wives) want their husbands back from the USA where they are working as illegals. It seems there are no men around and the woman fear abandonment and adultery while struggling to raise their kids alone. What was that imperative moral reason we had to accept illegals again Cardinal Mahoney?

Iran insists that the US should ignore their building atomic bomb capability and just begin negotiations with them to solve the problem. Let’s see now – if they aren’t building bombs what is there ever to negotiate over? I suppose there must be something to those negotiations, because both the crazed Iranian leader and our Democrats have exactly the same solution to the problem. Talk about it!

Tsk, tsk, the “ever investigating for one political side only” media has found out that Romney’s family tree has polygamy hiding in it somewhere. Not that Romney needs defending on this silly issue, but exactly how many mothers can a guy have anyway? Do extra wives really alter a person’s a family tree, genealogy wise that is? Odd also, those liberals think any and every kind of weird sexual constructs are desirable unless of course they happen to conservatives.

Golly, as Gomer would say: the Clinton and Obama camps are fighting each other. Should two top Democrats really be seen in public attacking a member of another minority?

Anecdotally speaking of global warming, the wind chill last week in upstate Vermont reached 28 below zero and we never once got above freezing all week. The snowmobile got bogged down because of too much snow, which shows that weather predictions are far more reliable than climate predictions.

Another item on the “green war” front: London is about to require labels on all food to show the amount of greenhouse gases it took to produce. This of course is just the not so clever prerequisite to the outright banning of what the left abhors. Say goodbye to fish and chips limeys. Oh, and we had all better start looking for caves to live in again if this green war against civilization keeps up.

The cut and run Democrats can’t decide what to do. Cut and run and risk backlash in “08” or just limit our troops in Iraq to delivering free Girl Scout cookies. The problem is, they really want to lose the war, but can’t get caught doing it.

A rightful fracas developing over a West Coast Asian paper’s article titled: Why I Hate Blacks. However, I’m still waiting for these same critics to survey the prejudices of the black community.

A Canadian football player with HIV was sentenced to 5.5 years in jail for not telling two willing seductees that he had HIV. Why didn’t he use the “It’s just sex” alibi that works so well down here for our liberals? Maybe he forgot to tell them to “put ice on it?” Aside my comments, it’s good news that serious penalties are being given out for this game. Will we hear about the gay community in this area soon?

Bush and the “alternative fuel –don’t drill” fanatics have driven the price of corn sky high. Hog farmers are worried about food costs, but I’m expecting any day now to hear about Hillary making a bundle in the futures market off of all this.

Drudge reports that bees are disappearing in giant numbers. As one who is severely allergic to bee stings I say hurrah! I know- we need them for pollination – heck, I’ll do that myself! Darn –I’m also allergic to flowers. Perhaps the first human/animal hybrid that scientists make should be a sting-less bee?

Speaking of corrupting science, The Center for Science in the Public Interest (Don’t you just love devious groups with nice sounding names) is aggressively trying again to turn us into vegetarian tofu-burger eaters by complaining about all the good tasting foods such as meatballs. Where oh where is their tolerance aptitude? In a somewhat related event, animal activists have planted bombs at Oxford.

My favorite eco-worshipper spoof is about a panic from a NASA photo
    http://www.ecoenquirer.com/NASA-vegetation.htm
which screams eco-disaster because New England vegetation is dying off from oil heaters The spoof is that is a map of New York that they show not New England and they speak of discoloration of leaves in the fall. This is spoofing eco-worship at its best.

An Inconvenient Truth and Happy Feet received an Oscar –sigh! The problem seems to be that there is too much similarity between Washington D.C. and Hollywood Ca. Hollywood is just a giant supporting cast for the bad actors in our government. Evidence of how far down we’ve come, is to look at who, or what, wins Oscars and Nobel Peace Prizes these days.

Al Gore has responded to being caught (never embarrassed, just caught) by claiming he switched to green power. How many trees must be sacrificed to provide the energy needed to cut, deliver, construct and maintain such a mansion? How many units of energy to make enough solar panels to warm this monster palace? How many birds must die in turning windmill blades to comfortably service this castle? How many cute little animals have been displaced that enjoyed the natural setting before this monstrous, “spoils of the rich political class” landed on their heads? Tsk, tsk Al. Don’t run for President – the little guy understands this stuff!

It seems to me that real “one issue” GOP voters aren’t the so called social conservatives but the ones who have “win without principle” as their one issue – regardless of the harm caused to America.

For those in the UK and the USA who propose that the War on Terror has made the world a more terrifying place, I would remind them that vaccinating a baby makes them cry a bit and maybe even learn to fear nurses. But the reality is no pain – no gain!

British scientists won their revolt against banning the creation of human/animal embryos. (It’s all for the children I suppose) No Orwellian thinking could ever have even anticipated how corrupt mankind has become by giving scientists carte blanche without first having a moral harness and tether.

In Solo Mio and Marso Too

March 2nd, 2007
    by Bergbikr

A recent item in National Geographic News drew the attention of this anti-Anthropogenic Global Warming warrior. In "Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says," Kate Ravilious informs us that;

Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet's recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human- induced—cause, according to one scientist's controversial theory.

Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.

In 2005 data from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide "ice caps" near Mars's south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row.

Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of the St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.

"The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars," he said.

The Russian scientist goes on to say that long term fluctuations in solar energy output can account for the ice ages experienced by both planets as well as the present warming in climate observed.

But, "au contraire", the grant funded, chicken-littles of the global warming consensus group proclaim.

"His views are completely at odds with the mainstream scientific opinion," said Colin Wilson, a planetary physicist at England's Oxford University.

"And they contradict the extensive evidence presented in the most recent IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] report."

Well we can't check that all out because the technical body of this report won't be published for a few months yet. Only the 'executive summary' is now at hand, a document written by the political types on this project, not the scientists. I watched the lead editor, a Dr. Solomon, strongly proclaim in a recent Congressional hearing (covered by CSPAN), that solar irradiance has been constant for the last hundred years. But we have also see reports that ol' Sol is in an extraordinarily active period in the current sun spot cycle. In addition, our earth boogies a bit in its orbit with wobbles, tilts and eccentricities, all messing with the insolation of solar energy. Astrophysicists are busily accumulating data to document and seek understanding of these effects on our climate.

Meanwhile we continue to observe the back and forth between the huddled consensus crowd and the skeptical technical professionals who seriously question the theory, as is the methodology of the scientific method.

Most scientists now fear that the massive amount of carbon dioxide humans are pumping into the air will lead to a catastrophic rise in Earth's temperatures, dramatically raising sea levels as glaciers melt and leading to extreme weather worldwide.

Abdussamatov remains contrarian, however, suggesting that the sun holds something quite different in store.

"The solar irradiance began to drop in the 1990s, and a minimum will be reached by approximately 2040," Abdussamatov said. "It will cause a steep cooling of the climate on Earth in 15 to 20 years."

We will just have to wait and see.

Liberal Elite Greens and their Carbon Dispensations

February 27th, 2007
    The MaryHunter

A rich one, from The New York Post's Page Six (courtesy Rush Limbaugh:

February 27, 2007 — HOLLYWOOD'S wealthy liberals can now avoid any guilt they might feel for consuming so much non-renewable fossil fuel in their private jets, their SUVs, and their multiple air-conditioned mansions. This year's Oscar goodie bag contained gift certificates representing 100,000 pounds of greenhouse gas reductions from TerraPass, which describes itself as a "carbon offset retailer." The 100,000 pounds "are enough to balance out an average year in the life of an Academy Award presenter," a press release from TerraPass asserts. "For example, 100,000 pounds is the total amount of carbon dioxide created by 20,000 miles of driving, 40,000 miles on commercial airlines, 20 hours in a private jet and a large house in Los Angeles. The greenhouse gas reductions will be accomplished through TerraPass' [program] of verified wind energy, cow power [collecting methane from manure] and efficiency projects." Voila, guilt-free consumption! It reminds us of the era when rich Catholics paid the church for "dispensations" that would shorten their terms in Purgatory.

Heh. I found the allusion to The Church amusing - we know what their true church is.

Global Warming Fears Terrorizing our Children

February 24th, 2007
    The MaryHunter

As if our kids didn't already have enough stress in their lives through safe-sex indoctrination classes in Kindergarten. Now we have the loony enviro-kook left and the fear-mongering Al Gore & Co. to thank for freaking them out as well. From The Political Grapevine:

All the reports about the dire consequences of global warming are having one unintended effect — they're scaring the wits out of some children. According to a recent study of 1,100 British youngsters between ages 7 and 11, half of them are so anxious about the effects of global warming, they frequently lose sleep over it.

The survey, conducted for a supermarket chain in Great Britain found that a quarter of the children blamed politicians for climate change, while a seventh blamed their own parents for not doing enough to save the environment. The most feared consequences of global warming among the children included the possibility of entire countries being submerged by flooding, and of course, the welfare of animals.

A spokesman for the supermarket chain seemed pleased that youngsters are so worried about global warming that it keeps them awake, as he lamented that, "many adults may look the other way."

I'd like go globally warm that chap.

Happy Birthday George Washington!

February 22nd, 2007
    The MaryHunter

On this important day of remembrance, Paul Greenberg has a nice column discussing the man George Washington and how he was the perfect person to lead the American Revolution and our new nation.

Throughout his life and career, Washington was set on independence. Independence first for himself as a young man, and then, as a general and statesman, for his country.

To him, independence never meant indulgence. Quite the opposite. It meant certain qualities a struggling new republic in an age of monarchies would need in its leader: dignity, decorum and, yes, a proper distance.

The Father of his Country understood both the promise and the dangers all republics faced, and that most had succumbed to. But this republic would usher in a New Order of the Ages, just as it still says on the dollar bill.

    […]

George Washington dared not forget what he represented. He represented America, and the American Idea — that liberty and authority, freedom and order could be one.

Greenberg also offers an intriguing analogy of Washington to, of all things, the popular music of the time:

The clearest and most eloquent explanation may lie not in scholarly analyses, or in Washington's own weighty prose, but in the music of his time: Listen to Haydn and hear the contest between theme and counter-theme, the folk melodies that are given free play but not enough to overpower the final triumph of decorum.

Listen to Mozart and hear the stately minuet transformed into a free, lively rondo, then brought back again to balance and moderation after some of the most unlikely yet, once heard, most predictable of steps. Mystery is turned into symmetry. So with Washington's leadership.

Do read the entire piece. It's quite a nice distraction from all the horrendous poli-tix going on these days, reminding us of what this Republic is really all about (or should be).

Thanks, George Washington, for helping to found and lead our wonderful nation!

Observations from a Padded Room

February 21st, 2007
    by DL

[Mea culpa, "Padded Room" fans! Delayed posting due to mental freeze (damn cold in this here basement). I hope no one has been too distressed! Unfortunately, DL is away fishing in some ice hole somewhere, so you won't see another "Padded Room" for another few weeks… -TMH]

The following ramblings are just that: since the world has turned into such a crazy place, being inside a padded room looking out seems safe!

    • I believe that a new TV show staring all the men who claim to have fathered Anna Nicole Smith’s child would beat American Idol. It is not true that John Kerry is claiming parentage at least at this time….er…perhaps “OJ” needs some money and he is quite experienced dealing with dead blonds named Nicole. (Ouch! Sorry)

    • Our good friends in Australia were previously bitten by the gun buyback as a panacea for evil people’s bad behavior with firearms. Strange how those guns they bought back are now showing up in crimes throughout the country. I guess it’s a variation of the UN’s Oil for Food program. Someone made a few bucks endangering the innocent citizens.

    • That radical femi-socialist Ellen Goodman of the Boston Globe says that anyone who says global warming isn’t occurring is on par with those who say that the Holocaust never happened. In the liberal lexicon, the word “denier” has apparently replaced the “N” word as the biggest way to insult anyone. For someone who propagandizes the wholesale slaughter of pre-borns as merely exercising one’s “choice” to exorcize some unwanted fetal tissue, she knows too well about denial.

    • Chirac confesses to having many women and brags about being as discreet as possible. Sad when adulterous betrayers hold being discreet as a higher good than fidelity.

    • We are told that scientists believe with near 90% certainty that man is causing global warming. Tell me, would you fly on a plane that was judged to have only 90% certainty that it will arrive safely? How about playing Russian roulette with a prototype “9” cylinder revolver – same stupidity! Consensus folks is not science – it’s politics!

    • The poles in Katowice Poland want to erect a monument to Ron Reagan for helping them to freedom from communist oppression. It is unfortunate that our Democrats will despise them for acknowledging a great man for the risks he took when every leftist hated him. I’m sure they prefer that Lenin’s monument be worshipped there.

    • Vermont, leftist home of screaming Howard Dean and socialist lovers of Bernie Sanders, being envious of leftist Connecticut’s over zealous driving restrictions, is attempting to limit drivers to just driving - the list of what Vermonters may not do while driving is too long to list here. Like the totalitarian addicts they emulate, they started with cell phones and moved onto…playing instruments. Having a cookie while driving might just land you in jail. How long before car radios and CD’s are banned? Conspicuously missing from any list in all such nanny states are toll booths. Searching for money while driving would never be a distraction to drivers.

    • Belgium is showing cancer picture on cigarettes in order to instill good health in the country. I assume they’ll soon be showing people dying from self-inflicted AIDS and close ups of partial birth abortions also.

    • The Russian Bear is out of hibernation early this year as Putin accuses the US of wanting to force its will on the world. Our answer sadly was to walk softly and carry a wet noodle. At least George could have sent the communist dictator a picture of Hillary as a threat.

    • The house Democrats new strategy is to cause a slow end to the war –not a rapid pull out that they might get tagged for. It fits their character. Like cancer, they choose slow progress toward defeat. No wonder they’re called progressives.

    • Iran’s threat to send out unmanned “suicide” drones against our Navy can only mean one thing –they’re running out of virgins upstairs. This could be a symbolic point like the battle of Midway in WWII. The tide of the war against terror must be turning. No virgins - no more sacrifice! Ironic that the Islamists must turn to using the West’s modern inventions –the products of the very culture they so despise.

    • Speaking of those 72 virgins – what’s left when they get used once?

    • Leftists of all persuasions are adamant that Bush is wrong on Iran. What hope does a country have when so many of its citizens eagerly side with Iranian arch enemies of the US and of civilization, over their own president?

    • Well negotiations work. At least that’s what the left is saying instead of crediting Bush with settling the North Korea problem. Some think Bush gave away the store in seeking favor on this deal. He received little in return for his giveaway – at least in terms of accolades from the left and the media. (a redundancy) Iran certainly was watching and learning how to play the game.

    • Giuliani reiterates his coveting of gun control. He loves abortion, gay marriage, believes deeply in the politics of the government solving global warming, and supports open borders while his friends, the RINO Republicans, spend all their energies chastising “one issue” conservatives who resist this cancerous capitulation to leftist ideals. Can’t RINOs even count? One issue indeed. Don’t they even know that an ocean is but one drop of water at a time? At times, I think liberals are the lesser enemy than the RINOs. Unfortunately, this is shaping up for an unwanted third party candidate, because such will be seen by conservatives as a more palatable alternative to the one party system with “no room at the inn” for them. The goal and direction of both parties seems the same; it’s only the speed that’s different.

    • Opportunists both: Lieberman and McCain have sold their souls to the non-scientific, one-world order crowd (IPCC) by stating that the debate on global warming has ended. I have never respected either man – this just solidifies my thinking.

    • Venezuela may control food-distribution. Welcome to Hugo-Mart; a wholly owned subsidy of Lenin Mart.

    • U tube has a great clip showing Obama saying he would “not” run for president. Bisexuals and liberals always want it both ways.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-MYq2TZ73Q

    • Gosh, some leftists from the UK are actually over here deliberately interfering in our politics on behalf of their leftist international global warming politics with nary any protest of interference from our liberal media and politicians, but when an Aussie even so much as ventures a negative opinion from his home country, about Obama the boy wonder, the liberal “butt out” response is near cartoon level fervor.

    • It was many months ago that I first said (to the surprise of some of my fellow Republicans) that we need to bring impeachment charges against George Bush on the border issue. (I fully support Bush on the war effort) Now Dana Rohrabacher (R) CA. has taken up the impeachment call on behalf of two border guards who are in jail under very questionable circumstances – investigations are imminent. Aside from their personal plight, which exposes the bigger question, why is Bush going to the transparent extremes that he is ignoring federal law and opening the border – an issue in my opinion that constitutes betrayal of his oath? This activity mandates a complete investigation. Impeachment hearings will expose the shenanigans –and there are shenanigans. Those secret meetings on the North American Union make Hillary’s health care fiasco a minor event. When we are being deceived by our leaders on such a serious issue that actually changes the entire nature of our country and the manner in which we are being governed, we need to take action. We need to cease our blind loyalty, or we are no better than the other guys. The cause is much bigger than Bush.

    • Ki-Moon, now confident in his power enough to try instilling his global values into sovereign states, is pushing for a world wide ban on the Death penalty. No matter what your beliefs on the death penalty, a strong MYOB is in order by the US, before internet taxes, global warming penalties and a myriad of other dictates come from the great fathers on Turtle Bay. Anyone who doubts this need look no farther than our own government’s unconstitutional theft of state prerogatives with hardly a whimper.

Spreading the Blame in the Scooter Libby Case

February 18th, 2007
    by The MaryHunter

For probably one of the most important articles written about the idiocy of the Scooter Libby case, look no further than (shock) the Outlook section of today's Washington Post: "Trial in Error: If You're Going to Charge Scooter, Then What About These Guys?" Author Victoria Toensing (who served in Reagan's Justice Department) deconstructs the whole doggone mess concisely. Her premise is that there is plenty of blame to be spread all over Washington in regard to this misbegotten case for half a dozen more grand jury indictments and years of further, perhaps more justified, entertainment.

Here's an excerpt:

THIS GRAND JURY CHARGES PATRICK J. FITZERALD with ignoring the fact that there was no basis for a criminal investigation from the day he was appointed, with handling some witnesses with kid gloves and banging on others with a mallet, with engaging in past contretemps with certain individuals that might have influenced his pursuit of their liberty, and with misleading the public in a news conference because . . . well, just because. To wit:

· On Dec. 30, 2003, the day Fitzgerald was appointed special counsel, he should have known (all he had to do was ask the CIA) that Plame was not covert, knowledge that should have stopped the investigation right there. The law prohibiting disclosure of a covert agent's identity requires that the person have a foreign assignment at the time or have had one within five years of the disclosure, that the government be taking affirmative steps to conceal the government relationship, and for the discloser to have actual knowledge of the covert status.

From FBI interviews conducted after Oct. 1, 2003, Fitzgerald also knew that then-Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage had identified Plame as a CIA officer to columnist Robert D. Novak, who first published Plame's name on July 14, 2003.

· In January 2001, Libby was the lawyer for millionaire financier Marc Rich, whom President Bill Clinton pardoned shortly before leaving office. Fitzgerald, who was then an assistant U.S. attorney in the southern district of New York, and U.S. Attorney James Comey spearheaded the criminal investigation of that pardon.

· Fitzgerald jailed former New York Times reporter Judith Miller for almost 90 days for not providing evidence in a matter that involved no crime. Yet the two were engaged in another dispute: Fitzgerald wanted Miller's phone records, contending that by contacting an Islamic charity, she had alerted it to a government search the day before it happened.

· Fitzgerald granted immunity to former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer without ever asking what he would testify to; he permitted NBC News bureau chief Tim Russert to be interviewed in a law firm office with his lawyer present, while Novak was forced to testify before the grand jury without counsel present.

· Armitage, like Bush adviser Karl Rove, forgot one conversation with a reporter. Fitzgerald threatened Rove with prosecution; Armitage bragged that he didn't even need a lawyer.

· In violating prosecutorial ethics by discussing facts outside the indictment during his Oct. 28, 2005, news conference, Fitzgerald made one factual assertion that turned out to be flat wrong: Libby was not "the first official" to reveal Plame's identity.

And yes, the author does eventually get to bashing the hypocrisy of the media, the calumny of Joe Wilson, and the cowardliness of Richard Armitage.

Enjoy.
