Bacon Bit: On Athiesm
Friday, September 30th, 2005 A little philosophy inclineth man’s mind to atheism, but depth in philosophy bringeth men’s minds about to religion.
–Sir Francis Bacon, from “Of Atheism.”

“Absolute moral authority?” Cindy Sheehan is utterly bereft of any moral authority. The only absolute regarding Cindy Sheehan is her moral low ebb, awash in pathos.
The ACLU is at it again. (When are they not?) The NYCLU, New York’s affiliate of the ACLU, feels that military recruitment tactics at schools are “unwanted, abusive and intrusive.” As pointed out by Jon Bodner at Live Journal, the irony is profound in that the ACLU also feels that panhandlers […]
Rush Limbaugh just read from “The Clinton Legacy,” an astonishing piece published online at The Progressive Review. It nicely summarizes things. Excerpt:
RECORDS SET
- The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
- Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates*
- Most number of cabinet officials to come […]
An avian flu pandemic would be a catastrophe that would unabashedly dwarf the human loss and disruption from all of this year’s international hurricanes and cyclones combined. Now with the oh-so-trustworthy headlines being snagged (again) by Roberts and DeLay, one wonders if there is hope for bird flu news to catch anyone’s attention.
The mainstream media are not blushing. They will continue down their arrogant Iraq-as-model reporting path, accentuating the negative with questionable facts and half-truths. And when they err, they will develop a news cycle reporting on the error with detachment, never taking responsibility for their actions in the first place, never committing to try and get it right next time.
I started this here blog with a buddy or two, on 15 May 2005. This was my first post. 331 posts and 1,010 comments later (a rather paltry sum by most measures), I’m just glad that I finally got into numbers high enough for my 6-year-old to not quite comprehend.

The minor senator from the fine state of Massachusetts is bereft of believablilty, from his claims of war heroics to his comical campaign pledges and “new math”… and especially his refusal to live up to his promise to release his military records.
From Brut Hume’s Political Grapevine, there’s this number from the Vipper of Vipp Dept. of Maximum Doofoolery:
Two residents of a New Mexico town are suing to remove three crosses from the official town seal. The suit says “the crosses serve no governmental purpose other than to disenfranchise and discredit non-Christian citizens” and accuses the […]
STOP THE ACLU is launching a new carnival: The Carnival Of True Civil Liberties. Head to this link for details. Jay is looking for dedicated volunteers to share carnival hosting as well — details at STOP THE ACLU.
Thanks to Jo’s Cafe for linkage
As you may or may not already be aware, members of the Watcher’s Council hold a vote every week on what they consider to be the most link-worthy pieces of writing around… per the Watcher’s instructions, I am submitting one of my own posts for consideration in the upcoming nominations process.
Here is the most […]
I was privileged to have attended the Support the Troops rally yesterday on The Mall in Washington, D.C. What I saw was several hundred people who love America and apprecite the sacrifice of our brave warriors in Iraq, Afghanistan, and throughout the world, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
We’ve had a Border Czar since early 2003? I guess we’ve had a few other priorities, lo these 2.5 years, that have trumped the adequate protection of thousands of miles of our national border. It’s great that this “full-court press” has finally made it onto Czar Bonner’s daily agenda.
The arrogance and hubris that can breed bad science maps perfectly onto the MSM. After all, not unlike scientists, journalists are an elite corps, chosen from on high and trained to distribute knowledge and information to the lowly masses.
It’s not too late to be a part of the festivities! If you’re in the greater DC area, the main event is
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 - Noon to 3 p.m. on The Mall at 4th St NW near the Air and Space Museum.
Everything you need to know, including Metro maps and […]
Jonah Goldberg is grumpy. It seems that it’s because he’s afraid that the current political climate is about as good as it’s going to get for Republicans and conservatives generally. Politics, it seems, is becoming not so fun for this bright young lad.
That hasn’t slowed him down from skewering liberals liberally in his […]
In the wake of Bill Clinton’s churlish performance last Sunday on George Stephanopoulos’ This Week, in which Clinton blamed Bush for everything from the hurricane Katrina response to global warming to Iraq, it was only fitting that Bush FINALLY took Clinton head-on and spoke out.
Happy Blogiversary to you
Happy Blogiversary to you
Happy Blogiversary dear Rightwing Nuthouse
Happy Blogiversary to YOU!
Rick Moran, aka Superhawk, is one of the folks most responsible for me delving into the blogosphere with my own silly shop of horrors. (Read the full story here.) But, this isn’t really about me. In fact, I feel almost silly being […]
To all those in hurricane Rita’s path: God bless you in this terrifying time. Our prayers are with you.
Most of us have family and friends in Houston. Some of them are bloggers. We’ve gotten word that our family have boarded up their homes and have made it to higher ground. God bless those still […]
She has argued for lowering the age of sexual consent to 12. She has argued for legalizing prostitution and polygamy. So if the satin pajamas and pipe fit…
You think the blogosphere is all bloviating, just preaching to the choir or slapping down trolls? Well, it’s things like this petition that allow our voices to be heard across America. C’mon! It’s time for us to stand up and make our voices heard.
NASA recently informed us that Mars is doing a little bit of shake and bake.
The Mars Global Surveyor beginning its ninth year in orbit around that planet has been watching landforms change in dune structures, allegedly caused by marsquakes loosening boulders and puffing gas from sub surface dry ice initiating sand flows. […]
Immersed in denial that they are still in the minority, Dems have hitched their cars to Dean’s locomotive of hate, with Reid as the conductor. Their position that no future Bush nominee to the right of O’Connor will be acceptable is a brand of blind minority opposition unprecedented in this nation’s modern history.
…er, I mean, Ginsburg. Or, was it Roberts?
This, from Brit Hume’s Political Grapevine:
In a Sunday editorial calling for the Senate to reject Supreme Court Chief Justice Nominee John Roberts, The New York Times said Roberts was “too much of a mystery” to be approved, since he wouldn’t answer questions about his personal views […]
Well, I had one of those days during which just about everything seemed to go wrong — not only blog-wise, but in that other more tangible part of life that is the oh-so-quotidian.
This quote cheered me up though, so I thought I’d share it with you:
A State, I cheerfully admit, is the noblest […]
