Ranchers along the U.S.-Mexico border report that, over the years, illegal aliens have more and more lost respect of those who live and work in the fringes of our nation. While illegal aliens by definition have no respect for at least a few important national residency laws, at least at one time they weren’t as destructive as they are now.

According to The Washington Post:
“President Bush today will name appeals court Judge Samuel A. Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court, according to a source close to the White House. Alito, 55, serves on the Philadelphia-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, where his record on abortion rights and church-state issues has been widely […]

It’s never too late to report on some more profundity as regards the Harriet Miers nomination — in particular, how this nominee has been perceived over time by politicos. From The Political Grapevine on FNC:

Toxic hazard tests of both natural and man made chemicals are placed in a context of relative threat to mankind, showing that familiar and safe foods are ranked similarly in alleged threat to often maligned synthetic chemicals.

T’was the night befor Fitzmas,
and through the White House
Every creature was wondering how this thing would turn out.
Lawyers with briefcases sat on their chair,
In case that indictments soon would be there.
The Kos Kids were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of perp-walks danced in their heads;
And Val with her scarf, and Joe […]

Today is usually STOP THE ACLU Blogburst day, so in honor of that (and owing to the fact that I’m still in major traveling mode) I thought that I’d do my part by featuring STOP THE ACLU this evening. Jay, Gribbit, and others have been doing yeoman’s work researching the ACLU and their true aims…

Perhaps that title should be Who Now.
I spent as much of the day as work would allow looking for and reading a wide variety of reactions to Miss Miers withdraw. There are as many reactions as there were opinions about her nomination. No real surprise in that.

About fifteen years ago I attended a seminar my company held off site to honor those who filed patent disclosures or received patents that year. The featured luncheon speaker was Bruce Ames, a professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Center, University of California at Berkeley.

Breaking on Fox News: Harriet Miers is withdrawing her name from consideration as a Supreme Court justice, for reasons related to demands of the release of White House documents. President Bush reluctantly accepts her request for withdrawal. This happened around 9 am Eastern today.
She’s also “concerned that the nomination process presents […]

In the heyday of environmental activism several decades ago, I remember hearing a talk by my company’s director of agricultural sciences. This respected biologist was presenting on the subject of animal tests for evaluating the biohazard of chemical substances.

So I see the front page of USA Today lying in front of my hotel room. Then, an article: “Letters Home from Iraq,” and I think, hey, maybe they’ll let the brave servicemen and women who have offered the ultimate sacrifice actually speak for themselves.

So much focus from TOM and the anti-victory left has been on the 2000th US casualty in Iraq. But this, found in an AP story, is a much better take.
In an e-mail statement to Baghdad-based journalists, command spokesman Lt. Col. Steve Boylan said media attention on the 2,000 figure was misguided and […]

DDT, PCB’s, SMOG, MTBE, DIOXIN - the list of “hazardous chemicals” that have invaded our past is lengthly and can bring forth a twinge of fear from our memory banks. Now I’ll discuss some of the bioscience that contradicts such wild claims of chemical assault.

Back in late July, during the early days following the nomination of John Roberts, much was made of the request from Senate Democrats for the release of White House documents related to his service to two administrations. I was against it then, and I still believe that it is inappropriate for the WH to cede to those requests. This time however, the requsts are coming from Republicans.

I’ve been a Research Chemical Engineer for fifty years and have always abhorred our society’s penchant for environmental junk science and personal injury tort weapons in the hands of unscrupulous lawyers and ecological do-gooders. For those of us who fondly remember Ronald Reagan, “The Teflon President,” it is mind blowing to find out that Teflon is now under attack as a toxic chemical.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the nomination had not yet been announced. An announcement was expected at 1 […]
